About Sonar

What is Sonar?
Sonar is a mobile app that tells you when your friends and friends’ friends are nearby, revealing the hidden connections and small world moments you might have otherwise missed. By leveraging social and location data from networks like Twitter, Facebook, Foursquare and LinkedIn, Sonar gives you context about the people surrounding you, and helps introduce you to relevant people who share your interests, friends and professional contacts.

Brett is the Co-Founder and CEO of Sonar. Prior to founding sonar, Brett conceived of and built game-changing mobile technology companies as the Director of K2 Media in NYC. Prior to K2, he and a college friend moved to Austin, taught themselves how to code, and built the Data Owl, the world’s first automated social media monitoring service for small businesses. Before that, he researched start-ups as a Fulbright Fellow in Milano, Italia.
In his previous lives, Brett has worked at VBS.tv as an Internet marketing associate and on Wall Street as an equity research associate. Other things he is proud of include getting published by Harvard Business, founding a rock band, starting a non-profit, earning a B.A. in economics from Dartmouth College, and sailing thousands of miles from Maine to Dominica in a 30ft ketch. Hit him up if he can be of assistance.

Fueled almost exclusively by cereal and Hummus Kitchen, Paul runs Sonar’s engineering—a real tight ship. Prior to Sonar, Paul was CTO at both K2 Media Labs and MarketSharing, served as Director of Engineering at Lime Wire, helped win Webby awards for Wired.com while leading the technology teams there, founded two companies, co-wrote two technology books and received his B.A and Masters degree from Johns Hopkins University. He’s a real underachiever.

- Ben Kempe VP of Engineering / Resident German Pastries Advocate

Ben is Sonar’s resident piano-playing, manatee fan. A graduate of Saarland University, Ben spent his pre-Sonar years doing AI research for DFKI, building high-performance trading systems at Accenture, and building a world-class music service at Lime Wire.

- Roger Chang Code Monkey
-
Roger recently jumped aboard the social bandwagon and discovered the vast world of knowledge to be had. He is not to be bothered when he is "in the zone", coding away. People often confuse him for his twin brother who also codes for a living, but when asked, he is the better-looking one of course!
